Mumbai: India’s Narcotics Control Bureau has raided Bollywood star Arjun Rampal residence in probe of the narcotics-related case.
The Bureau’s official Sameer Wankhede confirmed the raid saying that the team found medicines during search and these medicines fall under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The Bureau has summoned Rampal and his Gabriella Demetriades to join the probe on November 11 and November 12.
Earlier a month ago, the Bureau had also arrested South African national Agisilaos Demetriades, the brother of Rampal’s girlfriend, from Pune. Narcotics Control Bureau further contended that Agisilaos was part of a drug syndicate operating in Bollywood and the matter had also linked with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput on June 14.
The Bureau alleged that the drug supplier Agisilaos was in constant contact with the peddlers who were said to be in contact with Sushant Singh Rajput. The same peddlers are allegedly involved in supplying drugs to Rajput’s ex-girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik. Both siblings are already under the Bureau’s custody.
The Bureau’s team during the hour-long raid at Rampal’s residence took laptops, mobile phone, tablets and documents into its custody. Rampal’s driver was also inquired during the raid.
The raid on Rampal’s residence comes a day after film producer Firoz Nadiadwala’s residence was raided and his wife Shabana Saeed arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Nadiadwala had produced blockbusters like Welcome, Awara Pagal Deewana and Phir Hera Pheri.
The raid on producer’s residence was a follow-up operation. The Bureau had recovered drugs along with the hefty amount and arrested five persons. A Bureau’s team had intercepted one of them to be Shabana Saeed. Sources said that Shabana’s house was searched in the presence of two independent witnesses. Before the arrest, Shabana was issued a notice and her statement was recorded.
