Web Desk: World’s popular and most rated footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has tested positive for the Covid-19, Portuguese Football Federation confirmed in a statement Tuesday.
The news that Ronaldo tested positive for Covid-19 came as a shock for Portugal as he is the third player to test positive. Earlier this week, Portugal had announced SOSC Lille defender Jose Fonte and Olympique Lyonnais goalkeeper Anthony Lopes were tested positive for Covid-19.
The striker Cristiano Ronaldo is not only the most popular athlete in soccer-world but he is the most followed person on social media platform Instagram as of October 2020 with more than 240 million followers. Likewise, he has 123 million followers on Facebook and 88.4 million followers on Twitter.
According to the statement of Portuguese Football Federation, the 35-year-old Portuguese soccer star was doing well and quarantined himself for 14-day in Portugal. The federation said that that all the teammates of had also taken new tests and results were negative.
Ronaldo was tested positive for Covid-19 while on duty with the team which had played against Spain and France last week. After receiving negative results of Covid-19 tests, the teammates are continuing the practice for UEFA matches.
However, reports suggest that the Portuguese team staff now feared a possible spread of Covid-19 in the team after Cristiano Ronaldo posted a picture on his Twitter where he was sitting together with the squad during mealtime.
Reports further suggest that the news regarding Ronaldo was also the matter of concern for the team’s head coach Andrea Pirlo who was hoping to count on former to bounce back in Serie-A of the league after a faulty start with 4 points out of 6 collected.
According to Italian daily Il Corriere Della Sera, Ronaldo could also miss two more games including the match against Barcelona planned for October 28.
On Monday, the Technical-Scientific Committee decided to reduce the quarantine period, for those tested positive, from 14-day to 10-day and that only one negative test is required to be allowed to play again. Ronaldo remains an integral part of the squad at the Allianz Stadium since he has already scored three goals in two league games this season.
The news regarding Cristiano Ronaldo put his fans in a state of displeasure and most of them took to social media to criticize Ronaldo, who allegedly broke the voluntary self-isolation which Juventus imposed on the players last week following the two staff members were found with Covid-19.
After Ronaldo was called up to by the coach Fernando Santos, he refused to stay at the team’s hotel and proceeded to Portugal.
